LAGUNA B x COLLECTO

Inspired by fresh pastel shades of fruit-flavored sorbets, the Sorbetto collection is our first exclusive collaboration with Venice-based brand LagunaB.

“After living in Paris for a few years, French-Italian glassmaker Marie Brandolini moved back to Venice to unroot the glassmaking tradition that had always been very close to her heart. In 1994 she founded LagunaB, combining her exquisite yet unpretentious lifestyle, with the hundreds of years of history and tradition involved in the making of Murano glass. Her impeccable taste inevitably translated to her fabulous glassware line, which showcased a variety of colors, motifs and techniques that featured a modern twist on Murano’s signature “Goto de fornace” glasses. The family-owned house is now run by her son, Marcantonio, who is determined to continue his mother’s legacy and preserve Venice’s world renowned tradition.

This collection was born after months of brainstorming and conversations between our founder, Federika, and Marcantonio and his team. “We wanted to create a fresh and modern collection, while maintaining the intricacies and details of Murano glass”, Federika says. The collection is called Sorbetto, which means sorbet in Italian. Inspired by Italy’s celebrated art of the gelato, the name captures the fresh pastel shades of fruit-flavored sorbets.

    • The collection includes three shapes in three colorways, ruby & amethyst, cobalt blue, and emerald green, all of which are fully handmade in Murano Island using mouth-blown Murano glass. LagunaB worked with traditional masters to develop this production technique called “Rigadin menato”––rigadin meaning to have some tridimensional stripes, menato alluding to the stripes are forced in a spiral pattern, intricate details that can be seen in the glasses. “We designed the large and medium stems with opposite color combinations on the bowl and the stem for them to be combined with one another. We then decided to add a matching tumbler to complete the look.”

  • Very few brands continue to embrace Venice’s century-old craft of glassmaking dating back to the 13th century. Back then, this art was kept a secret from the world—only the families of glassblowers in the island of Murano knew the works rooted in this unique Murano tradition. Determined to keep this tradition alive, LagunaB works with traditional masters, each of whom specializes in a specific shape and technique. We are thrilled to share the launch of our first exclusive collaboration, and hope you love it as much as we do!
